CoJack started playing “Fog” by Sduk
jessipedia: hey folks
disk: oh snap everyones here
VYGR: hey jessi
Bo Peep (TNP): Heya.
jessipedia: what’s going on? ready for some interviewing?
VYGR: sure
disk: woot!

jessipedia: ok, well, first of all…What kind of music do you all play here, because I don’t really know what any of those music genres are… : /

digerati: >_< lol
VYGR: We play all sorts of Bass Music, Dubstep that is focused on sub-bass rather than on unbearable loud and screechy mid-range sounds, UK Garage, Grime, UK Funky, House, Juke, Footwork, some Jungle, Liquid DnB and so on.
jessipedia: what differentiates UK Dubstep from US? other than nationality..
VYGR: The love for bass, which means that we use subs to listen to our music and not just laptop speakers. Hah!
Bo Peep (TNP): LOL. FOR THE LOVE OF SUBS! RAWR!
digerati: ‘If your tune sounds like a bunch of power tools at a Home Depot – that’s not bass, that’s not sub, therefore, it’s not dubstep!’ -Joe Nice (UK Dubstep Ambassador)
trees: even tho he’s from the US, he still keeps it real/UK :p “UK dubstep” is just a sort of guideline, we play plenty of good US-based dubstep.
jessipedia: haha, ok. What’s Grime?
VYGR: Grime emerged from South London in the early 2000s as a development or blend of UK Garage, Dancehall, and Hip Hop.
trees: people like dizzee rascal and wiley are considered grime MCs

Room of the Week: Folk/Americana/Blues/Soul - It’s All Connected!

HippyGirlHeather started playing “Skinny Love” by Bon Iver
jessipedia: hey-a folks. what’s good?
Jabour Afrooz: Hi Jess
Walton T. Feep: hey jessipedia
HippyGirlHeather: Hi jess!
Lucy Luciano: Hey Jess.
jessipedia: Everyone ready for some interviewing?
HippyGirlHeather: Yes, please.
DJ poods: >straightens hair<

jessipedia: How did this room get started?

Yellow Dog Records: I wanted a common “rallying point” for roots music fans.  I also felt like specific sub-genres (whether alt-country, blues, etc.) were too limiting and wanted to open things up for a broader, more eclectic mix. or maybe I should say, narrow subgenres are great for popping in and out of rooms.

bunthead: i just searched for folk and this came up.  i bounced around between a few folk related rooms, but this one, by far, had the best community.
HippyGirlHeather: The people make this room.
Lucy Luciano: You mean the music.
DJ poods: I stumbled in here one day & was hooked

jessipedia: What’s roots music?

Walton T. Feep: roots = americana, blues, early jazz, etc
Yellow Dog Records: to me, it’s music rooted in American traditions - blues, folk, Appalachian
Jabour Afrooz: and a good amount of blues
bunthead: i’m definitely more of a left half of the genre, but like it says, it’s all connected.

Horns-A-Plenty: I’m a horn player… what else is there?!?

b3playr: I’m a b3playr.  Ditto.

Room of the Week: Pop Punk/Rock/Alternative/Emo

If you think that Punk Rock, Emo and Alternative are only for dejected teens, think again. The Pop Punk/Rock/Alternative/Emo room is filled with friendly upbeat people ready to rock out and have a great time doing it! If you want to crowd surf with awesome buds, this is the room for you!

jessipedia: hey folks
Tired Tigress: Hi Jess.

jessipedia: So, how did the room get started?

THEdickhatch: Well, when the FBR room died, Jon made this.

Feve10: Jon aka therarecreature
DJ DORFPIMP started playing “For Members Only” by Northstar
jessipedia: FBR?
THEdickhatch: Fueled By Ramen
TheRareCreature: Dorfpimp and I were working together…I made a room for us to DJ in together…was on a pop punk kick but wanted more variety. Dick and Quart were our two first super regulars and then Neesh came along.

DJ DORFPIMP: so we were like we need to make a room for all kinds of awesome music we enjoy and then it grew slowly. like watching a baby grow.
Another Band Girl: Then cool people find each other. The rest is history. Since Jon and Adam spoke to everyone in chat, it became a room of friends with the same music taste.
Tired Tigress: But we later expanded the room’s musical palette to incorporate mostly everything.

The folks over in indie and such don’t hold back, but if you enjoy free wheeling chat you’ll make tons of new friends and hear fantastic music. Here’s what I found out when I popped by for a chat:

CarrieAwesome started playing “Bright, Bottom” by Declan’s Well
Nikki Piecoro: Jess, we all put on our finest sweatpants for ya
CarrieAwesome: Hello Jess!
jessipedia: oh, nice. thanks for dressing up
FredJonathan: i just had by blue bear suit dry cleaned

jessipedia: So tell me, how did it all get started?

BaronVonChang: when a woman and indie music love each other very much, a room gets created
Nikki Piecoro: I wanted a room where I could listen to indie while i worked. As it turns out that name was taken, so I started “indie and such”. I wanted to leave room for some “and such” as well. and then all of these idiots shuffled in one by one.

Room of the Week: Orange Bear Party Indie

Orange Bear Party Indie [OBPI] is one of the more distinctive rooms on Turntable. It’s pretty much impossible to miss the orage bearsuits, but they also have a great room vibe and play rockin’ tunes. Check it out if you want to make some eccentric friends who greet you by name and invite you to go to shows with them.  I hung out with them for an evening to see what they do to keep things so awesome.

Evan Gerold: gotta start the interview with a great song
Evan Gerold started playing Psycho Killer by Talking heads
DJ Don: great song evan

jessipedia: DJ Don, Why did you start the Orange bear room? Why the orange bears not, say, the blue ones?

DJ Don: there’s a group of us that were in indie/alt rock but the creator was always afk [away from keyboard]. so one night, semi (now ramona), joanna, and I made a new room. some of us were already orange bears; we wanted something fun so that’s what we landed on.
Ramona Quimby, Age 8: that was the days before multiple mods. we spontaneously were all orange bears one time and then we started calling that an “orange bear party’
Evan Gerold: so when we created the room we thought it was only right to name the room that
Ramona Quimby, Age 8: we tacked the indie on to keep out the constant stream of dubsteppers that were the majority of random DJs on TT
jessipedia: that was probably smart
Commas: We didn’t choose the orange bear, the orange bear chose us.
Dan.Steel: I always wanted to be an Orange Bear since I am a Texas Ex and the closet color to my school. Texas Longhorn for life. Then, I found this room and the rest was history.’
Yolagringo: Really boring history
GotMilk?: Who knew the room would grow to be so popular
Evan Gerold: we did not
